The Resource Fair is an event designed to introduce students to the many help options available at Southern Utah University. Students got the chance to ask questions, learn about clubs and talk with student ambassadors about on- and off-campus opportunities.
Laurel Buxton, a Career Center employee, highlighted the value of the Resource Fair.
“This is a great way for students to get connected,” said Buxton. “Unfortunately a lot of students are not aware that the Resource Fair exists.”
The Career Center is tailored toward students in search of a job. Students can schedule an appointment or walk into the center to get help with writing their resume, preparing for an interview and taking career assessments. They also offer assistance with searching for a job or graduate school.
Another organization in attendance was the Financial Wellness Center, which focuses on financial education and assistance. Similarly to the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office, you can ask questions about financial aid, scholarships, loans and tuition.
What separates them, however, is that they help students with financial questions outside of those that are school-related. If a student is in need of a monthly budget, for instance, the center will help students make a plan that includes all of their monthly payments.
Other resources at the fair were the Tutoring Center and the Speech and Presentation Center. These two offices aim to help students succeed in the classroom. The Tutoring Center has over 70 tutors on staff with knowledge on various subjects, while the Speech and Presentation Center provides students with valuable feedback to hone their public speaking skills.
Kelton Preece learned about the Academic Recovery Center through the Resource Fair. He took an interest in this program because they help students put together a schedule that helps them effectively manage their time.
“I am a senior now,” shared Preece, “but I wish that this was something I knew about sooner because it could have been very beneficial to me.”
