A Record Breaking Thunder U

Thunder U is a loved tradition here at SUU. It has grown in numbers dramatically since its debut year in 2016.

Madi Maynard, the coordinator of Orientation and First-Year Experience, explains Thunder U is an “orientation event that introduces students to SUU and the resources we have here and get them connected so they can have a successful first year.” It is an informative and fun experience that takes place the weekend before school starts for incoming freshman, and the upperclassman who act as their team leaders.

Our SUU student family is now bigger than ever before. This fall semester, 2,100 Freshman are joining us from all over the state, the country, and the world. Because Thunder U had so many incoming freshman, there was a need for at least 200 team captains. Each team captain has a group of 8-12 Freshman and acts as a guide and a friend to the new students for the entire weekend.

The weekend was jam-packed with activities and helpful college tips and tricks to help the freshman on their way. Over 40 hours of events took place for the students to enjoy.  They had the opportunity to make friends that could potentially last all of their college years and even a lifetime.

Thunder U is the incoming Freshman’s first exposure to what it entails to truly be a T-bird. This is where the freshman start their journey as they walk under the beloved Bell Tower, launching them into a great year at SUU.

Go T-birds!
