CEDAR CITY, Utah– The SUU women’s basketball team defeated EWU 73-63 on Thursday night in the America First Event Center.

Rebecca Cardenas was the early spark for SUU, scoring 10 points in the first half to help give the T-Birds a 29-27 lead at the break. She would go on to lead the team in scoring with 17 points overall to go along with nine rebounds.
Harley Hansen ignited the SUU offense in the third quarter, going on a 9-0 run by herself to help the T-Birds build a 49-43 lead heading into the final period.

Ashley Larsen was another key contributor, scoring 17 points in the contest.

SUU stretched the lead to a game high 14 points at 67-53 with 3:55 left to play. They would hold off the Eagles down the stretch to close out the win.
With the win, the Lady T-Birds sit at 6-13 overall and 3-7 in the Big Sky. This marks the first time that SUU has won more than two conference games in a season since 2014-15 when they went 6-12.
SUU returns to action Saturday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. as they host the Idaho Vandals. The game will be streamed on Pluto TV channel 236.
