SUU vs. EWU Women’s Basketball Preview

The Southern Utah Women’s Basketball team hopes to end their four-game losing streak at home Thursday night versus Eastern Washington.

The Lady T-Birds match up against the reigning Big Sky player of the week, Violet Morrow, who scored a career high 37 points in EWU’s win over Montana State. Slowing Murrow down will be key if the T-Birds are to pick up the home win.

Morrow leads the Eagles with 19 PPG and is the focal point of their offense. She is supported by Alissa Selby’s 9.2 PPG and McDonald’s All American nominee freshman guard Grace Kirscher (9.7 PPG).

The Eagles have lost their last two coming into Thursday’s matchup. They have actually been better on the road (3-5) than at home (1-6) this season.

The Thunderbirds on the other hand have played their best basketball at home, including a preseason win over the now No. 25 BYU Cougars. They will look to return to their winning ways in Cedar City.

Junior Harley Hansen leads the T-Birds with 12.9 PPG. Rebecca Cardenas leads the team in rebounding (6.9 RPG) and assists (3.8).

Southern Utah needs to be more creative on offense. Their performance against Northern Colorado only yielded 44 points and the team needs to find a way to get more shots to fall

Last season the Eagles won both matchups between the two teams. The Thunderbirds’ haven’t beaten the Eagles since the 2016-17 season in Cheney.

If SUU can slow down Morrow and put some more points on the board, they’ll have a strong chance of getting their first win in two weeks.

The game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. in the America First Events Center. The game will be streamed on PlutoTV Ch. 236 and live stats will be available on tbirdstats.com.
