Outdoor Spring Break Activities

While traveling to Florida, California or other spring break destinations can be fun, the travel is often grueling and the price is astronomical.

For those of you who will be hanging around Cedar City, there are plenty of outdoor events happening over the break that won’t force you to leave the state.

Wild Swan Day – March 10

The Utah Division of Wildlife (DWR) is holding a Wild Swan Day on March 10. Both Tundra and Trumpeter swans will make a stop at two DWR waterfowl management areas: Salt Creek, west of Corinne and Farmington Bay, west of Centerville. Views are free and will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Although representatives of the DWR will have spotting scopes and listening devices on site, it’s recommended that those with binoculars and spotting scopes bring their own.

According to the DWR, every year wild swans stop at Utah’s wetlands for rest and refueling on their way to their nesting grounds in Canada and Alaska. For more information on Wild Swan Day and directions to the viewing locations, visit the Utah DWR website.

Crossroads of the West Gun Show – March 10-11

For the avid sportsman or gun collector, the Crossroads of the West Gun Show will be held on March 10-11 at the Dixie Center in St. George. Admission is $8 per person and children under 12 get in free.

For more information on the show or to purchase tickets, visit the Crossroads of the West Gun Show website.

Turkey Hunting Clinic – March 17

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources will be holding a turkey hunting clinic on March 17 from 10-11:30 a.m. in Blanding. The event will teach participants how to find turkeys, how to tell the difference between a mature and juvenile turkey and more.

Tri-State ATV Jamboree – March 14-17

For those with an ATV or side-by-side, the Tri-State ATV Club will be holding their 14th annual Tri-State ATV/UTV Jamboree. The event will be held March 14-17 at the Washington County Regional Park in Hurricane. The Jamboree will include 28 planned rides including 5 brand new rides led by experienced guides with knowledge of the area.

For more information and to register, visit the Tri-State ATV Club website.

SUU Outdoors Spring Break Trips – March 9-19

If none of these events sound interesting, have no fear, SUU Outdoors will be hosting two trips over spring break. They have not yet released information on what the trips will entail, so for more information, visit the Outdoor Center in Room 127 of the Sharwan Smith Student Center or call 435-865-8704.

If you still don’t see any trips in the list above that sound like fun, remember SUU is located within 5 hours of 20 national parks and monuments. A National Park pass is only $80 providing you not only with a spring break full of fun, but a whole year’s worth of nature-filled adventure.
