Southern Utah Women’s Tennis Team Dominates Matches in St. George

The Thunderbird women’s tennis team went 2-0 against Colorado Mesa and Dixie State in St. George on Saturday.

Recap: Colorado Mesa University

Southern Utah swept their first opponent of the weekend, Colorado Mesa University, in both doubles and singles.

Coach Rose Ketmayura said, “I’m really proud of my girls because of the weather conditions, It was cold and 20 mph winds for the most of the match. They stayed focused, played smart and stuck to their game plans.”

Despite the opposition from the weather, the T-Birds came out on top in every match. Zoe Tanti in the No 3 spot for singles competition swept Nicole Kitsuse 6-0 in the first set followed by a powerful win of 6-1 in the second set. Daniela Cozzi (6-1, 6-2) and Mikala Lowrance (6-3, 6-0) also contributed dominating wins.

Recap: Dixie State University

The T-Birds managed to keep their rhythm going into their second match of the day against Dixie State, winning two of the three doubles matches, and eight of nine singles matches.

“Overall we played well this weekend after overcoming so much over the last couple of weeks. I’m proud of the girls. It was a lot of tennis and both Dixie and Colorado Mesa came out strong,” commented head coach Ketmayura, after the last of the matches.

In the doubles competition, Ghita Nassik and Daniela Cozzi, pulled off a win despite a close contest in the No 1 spot. In the No 3 position, Laura Martin and Eira Tobrand followed suit. Alex Ngo and Charity Sagiao glided through their match in the No 2 spot.

Coming out with the close wins in the No 2 and No 3 spots, Eira Tobrand and Zoe Tanti added important wins for the Thunderbirds. The rest of the following matches through the No 9 position won with relative ease.
