The Southern Utah women’s basketball team wrapped up their road trip Saturday afternoon with a 66-39 loss to the Idaho State Bengals.
The Bengals jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter holding the Thunderbirds to just 10 points. Things were slightly better in the second quarter as the Thunderbirds put up 11 points, but they still trailed 32-21 heading into the half. Kiana Johnson scored eight points in the first half, shooting 3-5 from the floor.
The Thunderbirds scored just 18 points in the second half as the Bengals extended their lead, outscoring the T-Birds in both quarters. Whitney Johnson scored all nine of her points in the second half and pulled down three rebounds.
The Johnson sisters were the leading scorers for the Thunderbirds. Kiana Johnson had 10 points with three rebounds and Whitney Johnson put up nine points and added five rebounds.
Sai Tapasa was the leading scorer for the Bengals with 19 points and six rebounds.
The Lady T-Birds will return home for a three-game homestand, starting with NAU on February 10 in the America First Event Center.
