November 21 through 25 Home Preview

SUU basketball will heat up this week with three home games, including one on Friday for students staying in Cedar City over Thanksgiving break.

Women’s basketball will take the court today to play against the Utah State University Aggies at 5 p.m.

The Lady T-Birds are currently in eleventh place in the Big Sky Conference with a 0-3 overall record.

The Aggies are in tenth place in the Mountain West Conference with a 1-2 overall record. They defeated Westminster College in their only exhibition game of the season 72-55. In pre-season play they have only beat Dixie State University 92-72, and have lost to the University of California Irvine 84-87 and the University of Arizona 49-65.

The last time the Thunderbirds and the Aggies played each other was Nov. 22, 2016 where Southern Utah won 70-54.

After women’s basketball leaves the court today the men will take a turn and face the Benedictine University at Mesa Red Hawks at 8 p.m. tonight.

The Thunderbirds are currently in tenth place in the Big Sky Conference with a 1-2 overall record.

The Red Hawks are in third place in the California Pacific Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics with a 4-2 overall record. This season they have defeated Southwestern Assemblies of God University- American Indian University 91-73, West Coast Baptist College 94-75, Life Pacific College 81-77 and Westcliff University 100-71. They have lost to Vanguard University 70-75 and Arizona Christian University 92-100.

Benedictine University at Mesa was proposed as a branch campus of Benedictine University in 2012, and the Thunderbirds and Red Hawks have not faced off since the former’s founding. The game is listed as an exhibition for Benedictine at Mesa, but not for Southern Utah.

The Lady T-Birds will play against more Aggies this week when they take on the University of California Davis Friday at 2 p.m.

The California Aggies are in first place in the Big West Conference with a 4-0 record. They have topped the Academy of Art University 77-34 in an exhibition game, Washington State University 91-76, Pepperdine University 69-64 and Portland State University 79-67.

Southern Utah and UC davis last faced off on Dec. 6, 2014. The Thunderbirds lost 53-76.
