The Thunderbird women’s golf team wrapped up their Fall Season on Wednesday at the New Mexico State Aggie Invitational, as the third and final round is in the books at the NM State Golf Course in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Kamonwan (Poy) Prasurtwong finished the event tied for 20th on the leaderboard, after shooting her second consecutive 74 to bring her three day total to 227 (79, 74, 74). Prasurtwong showed improvement on Tuesday and Wednesday after shooting a 79 to start the tournament on Monday.
Kyla Smith was second for the Thunderbirds, matching Prasurtwong’s 74 on the final day to bring her three-day total to 236 (81, 81, 74). Smith also showed plenty of improvement on the final day, after shooting an 81 in both of the first two rounds. She finished in a tie for 41st on the leaderboard.
Nicole Jones finished third for the Thunderbirds and 50th overall with a 246 (82, 79, 85). Lindsay Aleman finished one spot behind her, shooting a 249 (84, 86, 79). Launa Wilson was fifth for the Thunderbirds and with a 252 (81, 89, 82).
As a team the Thunderbirds finished in 10th place with a 952 (323, 320, 309) showing a ton of improvement on Wednesday.
Sacramento State (873) claimed the team title in New Mexico, followed by UTEP (893) and CSU Fullerton (895).
Weber State’s Kiselya Plewe won the event by shooting a 213 (71, 71, 71).
This was the Thunderbird’s final fall event of the season. They will be back on the course in 2018, when they will compete in the Battle at Boulder Creek. That event will run from February 12-13 at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
