Cedar City is a small city, especially when compared to bigger, dare I say, actual cities. In the big cities, everything is expected to run on 24/7 basis, operating at the convenience of every sort of customer. These are the places where Walmart’s parking lot is filled to the brim all hours of the day.
However, Cedar City does not exclusively have stores which adhere to this small-town philosophy of going to sleep at 9 p.m. There are, in fact, a few notable exceptions which exceed in not only being open past the hours that your grandparents go to sleep at, but in providing excellent service at these hours.
Walmart (Open 24/7):
Walmart has everything that a college student who is living off of student loans could need. They have soda, chips, video games, spraypaint and more. They are also opened 24/7, providing for everyone regardless of whether they choose to live at a time schedule quite irregular from one’s circadian rhythm. Say you are awake at 3 a.m., and you suddenly have the urge to buy yourself a 60-inch flat screen plasma TV. Where are you going to go buy it? You know you can take out yet another student loan to afford it, but what retail store would be open in Cedar City at such an hour? Walmart is open and you can buy yourself the 60-inch flat screen plasma TV, at 3 a.m.
Valerie’s Taco Shop (Open 24/7):
Have you ever been to a restaurant by the name of Beto’s? How about one called Rancherito’s? What about any Mexican restaurant that lays claim to the California Burrito? Valerie’s Taco Shop is all that, and maybe just a little better. They’ve got your Carne Asada Burritos, they’ve got your Tortas, they’ve got your guacamole and chips, they have horchata and churros, they have all of the sauces you could ever need; and, what’s more, they also have some of the best service I have encountered at a Tex-Mex restaurant. I would definitely suggest giving their Chorizo Breakfast Burrito a try.
Lin’s Market (6 a.m.-12 a.m.):
If you dislike big business and their focus on profits rather than people, and other big businesses over your small, locally grown, family-oriented businesses, Lin’s Market is the grocery store for you! Hosting a large variety of locally-grown produce in every plants season, including a rather impressive–and large–variety of squash during the fall, Lin’s has the produce that is needed in your kitchen. Even if you don’t know how to cook, one look at the organic naturally grown produce will convince you that it is what you need in your life, and on your plate.
McDonald’s (Drive-thru open 24/7):
Spicy McChicken Sandwiches can only do so much for you, which is a lot. I have lived off of Spicy McChickens before, and I still have substance in this world. With a drive-thru open all hours of the day and night, you can load yourself up on Spicy McChickens until you don’t want to ever look at a piece of spicy chicken again, then you can switch to exclusively eating their $5/20 piece Chicken McNugget meal. If you don’t have a car, then you won’t be able to partake in this offer, because their sensors require that a car be pulling through the drive-thru. It won’t let a human through, I’ve checked.
