Women’s Golf Headed To Oregon To Compete In Rose City Collegiate

With an event under their belts, the Thunderbird women’s golf team will head to Oregon to face off against several Big Sky Conference opponents in the 2017 Rose City Collegiate hosted by Portland State.

The Thunderbirds opened their season at the 2017 Hobble Creek Classic, where they finished in ninth place as a team.

Kamonwan (Poy) Prasurtwong led the way for SUU, shooting a two-day total of 224 (77, 77 70). Kyla Smith also had a solid outing for the Thunderbirds, shooting a three-round 229 (80, 74, 75). Lindsay Aleman (232), Miranda Reyes (234) and Nicole Jones (238) made up the scoring five for the Thunderbirds at the event.

The eighth annual Rose City Collegiate will be played from September 25-26 at Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora, Oregon. The course is a par-72 that plays 6,057 yards.

The first ever Rose City Collegiate was played in 2010, and North Texas pulled away with the victory. In 2016, Oregon State out of the Pac-12 claimed victory in Aurora.

Competing Teams: Portland State, Southern Utah, Eastern Washington, Weber State, Northern Colorado, Nevada, Cal Poly, Grand Canyon, Montana State, Concordia, Simon Fraser, UTRGV, Idaho State and Western Washington

Last season the Thunderbirds finished 10th in this event, with Prasutwong having a breakout event. She finished in second at the event, shooting a 213. That finish meant back-to-back second place finishes for her in her first two events as a Thunderbird.

Reyes, Jones and Smith were all part of SUU’s scoring five at the event last year, and will have plenty of experience with the course this time around.
