Men’s Golf Readies For Second Fall Event In Colorado

After spending some time at the U.S. Air Force Academy for a tournament, the SUU men’s golf team is now headed to another part of Colorado, as they’ll be in Erie for the Mark Simpson-Colorado Invitational.

The T-Birds opened their season at the 2017 Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, where they were led by senior Fidel Concepcion. Concepcion shot a five-over 221 (71, 74, 76) to lead the way for the Thunderbirds at the event. He finished in a tie for 56th in the field.

Sophomore Jake Vincent was runner-up for the Thunderbirds, shooting a six-over 222 (73, 75, 74). That put him in a tie for 63rd place on the leaderboard. Freshman Austin Jaramillo was third for the Thunderbirds in his very first event, shooting an 225 (80, 71, 74).

Christian Karren (79, 75, 77) and Bradley Collet (83, 76, 72) finished with 231 to tie each other on the leaderboard.

SUU shot 894 as a team at the event.

The 2017 Mark Simpson-Colorado Invitational will be hosted by the University of Colorado and will be a two-day, three-round event played at Colorado National Golf Club.
