The Thunderbird women’s tennis team is heading to Colorado Springs this weekend to compete in the Air Force Invitational. They are coming off of a 3-19 record last season and are look to improve upon that this year.

The Thunderbirds have the advantage of some veteran leadership this season. They are led by seniors, Mikala Lowrance, Terese de Enrique Schmidt, and Laura Martin Lozano, and. Along with the experience from those three seniors, three freshmen also joined the team in the offseason adding some exciting new talent to the roster.

Junior, Charity Sagiao, has the most wins from last of any active player. She had a 9-13 record along with going 3-7 in conference play.

This will be Rose Ketmayura’s second year as head coach. She is looking forward to seeing her team’s efforts going into their first tournament of the season.

“I’m really excited to see how our new players perform in a college tournament,” Ketmayura said, “it’ll also be great to see the continuing improvement from our returners.”

Match play will begin at 8 a.m. MT both Friday and Saturday and the tournament is hosted by Air Force. Unfortunately, there will be no live stream or stats for any of the matches this weekend, but follow us on social media to stay updated on the action.
