Swim, Bike and Run to Victory

Saturday Sept. 9 while runners gathered in Cedar City for the Cedar Half Marathon, a different breed of athletes were coming together at Sand Hollow State Park for the Kokopelli Triathlon. The morning began early with the kids triathlon at 7 a.m. followed by the start of the adult triathlon at 7:30 a.m.

The kids triathlon consisted of a .06 mile swim followed by a 2 mile bike ride and 1 mile run. Devin Gosnell was the first place overall and male finisher with a time of 22:36.2 and Mckenzi Bird was the first place female finisher with a time of  27:25.7. Both were in the 9 to 11 age group.

The Adult triathlon began with the Olympic group at 7:30 a.m. with a .93 mile swim in the Sand Hollow Reservoir. Following the swim, the athletes completed a 20.7 mile bike ride and 6.2 mile run. The first place male finisher Justin Thornley, from Henderson Nevada, finished with a time of 1:08:47.1 and first place female finisher Emma Foster, from Henderson Nevada, finished with a time of 1:22:53.6.

The kids triathlon and adult triathlon were just two of the events held on Saturday at the Kokopelli Triathlon. A more complete list of race results and events can be found on the BBSC Endurance Sports website.
