Tyler And Berz Recognized By Big Sky Following Victory Over Stephen F. Austin

Following their first victory of the 2017 season, the Big Sky Conference has recognized two SUU student-athletes as senior Patrick Tyler was named ROOT SPORTS Offensive Player of the Week and freshman Manny Berz was named ROOT SPORTS Special Teams Player of the Week.

Tyler threw for 414 yards and four touchdowns on Saturday, completing 28 passes on the day. He also had plenty of success on the ground, rushing for 48 net yards and a touchdown.

Tyler currently leads the Big Sky Conference in total offense, totaling 676 yards so far this season. That puts him at an average of 338 yards per game. Tyler is second in the Big Sky in passing yards, behind only Jake Maier of UC Davis.

Berz knocked in his first field goal as a Thunderbird with 10 seconds left in the opening half in Nacogdoches, hitting one from 23 yards out. He went on to knock home two more field goals during the course of the game, one from 39 yards and the other from 28.

Berz is fourth in the Big Sky Conference in scoring, hitting three field goals and 9 extra points.

The Thunderbirds will host their first home game of the season this Saturday, when they host the No. 18 Panthers of Northern Iowa.
