The National Parks Service was created in 1916, three years prior to women acquiring the right to vote. Suffrage and women’s empowerment had been growing, and as World War I began, an increasing number of women were being allowed into jobs traditionally held by men. On March 16, Southern Utah University announced via Instagram that Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will be the keynote speaker for the 2023 commencement ceremony. Reaction to the announcement has garnered both excitement and disapproval. One of the most anticipated Southern Utah University performances, the Pacific Islander Student Association showcase, will be taking the stage at the Auditorium Theatre on March 16-18 at 6 p.m. Southern Utah University’s women’s basketball team has just won the Western Athletic Conference championship game against California Baptist University, 73-82. The Southern Utah University men’s team completed an all-time great 23-point comeback against the Utah Valley University Wolverines. Senior guard Tevian Jones completed a four-point play with four seconds left that earned SUU an 89-88 victory. The win advances Southern Utah to the Western Athletic Conference championship game and gives them a chance to make the NCAA tournament. The Southern Utah University and New Mexico State University women’s basketball teams faced off Wednesday night in a Western Athletic Conference quarterfinal game. In an exciting finish provided by a buzzer-beater from Cherita Daugherty, SUU took the 62-61 win.
