Shooting reported in Beaver County turns out to be fake

The Beaver County Sheriff’s office said they received a call about a shooting and a murder that never happened. The hoax shooting was alleged to have taken place in a Beaver car wash on Sept. 26.

The call was received at approximately 2:55 p.m. According to the press release, the caller claimed they killed a coworker during a disagreement, and proceeded to barricade themself in the back of a truck in the aforementioned car wash. With the severity of the threat, the surrounding area, including the Beaver Valley Hospital, were placed under a shelter-in-place protocol to exercise caution.

Upon arrival over half an hour later at 3:30 p.m., officers swept the building and couldn’t find a victim or suspect on the premises. The incident was classified as a false allegation, and the office has stated that an active investigation to locate the unknown caller is underway.

“The Beaver County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an active investigation, utilizing multiple state and federal resources to identify and locate the individual responsible for this call,” an official statement from the office reads. “We also thank our community members for their patience, cooperation and support as we safely navigated this incident.”
