Southern Utah University’s Comm IRL event was held on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 3 p.m. The event was held at the north entrance of the American First Event Center.
The event gave SUU students an opportunity to explore the different areas of the communication department and learn more about what it had to offer. Students could visit different rooms and participate in activities throughout the event.
The SUU TV room held a tongue-twister competition where students competed for a $25 gift card and saw themselves on camera as they read from the teleprompter.
The SUU News room had sports communication Jeopardy, as well as other random categories of trivia questions. Students could earn tickets by participating in the activities. These tickets were entered into a raffle for chances to win different prizes.
The Social Brand Lab had a TikTok activity and on-site advising for students who were curious about the department.
Outside, students could enjoy free Dole Whip, play cornhole and spikeball, and participate in karaoke hosted by Thunder 91, SUU’s student-run radio station.
“The purpose of this event is to let the campus know all the great things that are happening in the comm department and all the different resources we have,” said Angela Eyre, Administrative Assistant for the Communication Department.
Eyre said the event had a larger turnout than expected.
“We were hoping to get around 100 students, but I would say we have definitely more than double that,” Eyre Said.
