SUU Powderpuff homecoming game recap

Southern Utah University held their annual Powderpuff game on Wednesday, Sept. 23. at 7:30 p.m. The event, where two all-women football teams competed in a flag football game, took place at the Eccles Coliseum.

The game kicked off with a performance by the SUU cheerleaders, followed by introductions of the university’s athletic teams and a performance  by the SUU dance team.

The teams were made up of current SUU students and nicknamed Red and Black, then faced off in a dance competition to determine first possession, with Black taking the win.

Red scored early in the first half after intercepting a pass from Black, but failed to convert the two-point attempt. Black quickly responded with a touchdown of their own, though it also came up short on the two-point conversion. By halftime, Black held a two-point lead.

During halftime, the Thunderettes, a male cheerleading team made up of SUU students, performed a dance routine and MC Inian Rajinikanath conducted interviews with students in attendance.

Red opened the second half with a touchdown run and successfully converted the two-point attempt to take the lead. Black answered with another touchdown to tie the game, but a Hail Mary pass from Red put the team back in front. Red held on for the remainder of the game, ultimately claiming the title of Powderpuff champions with a final score of 34-32.
