Southern Utah University will host concerts and an open house during homecoming weekend to celebrate its brand-new George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Music Center. Local residents, students, alumni and regional music lovers are invited to attend the performances and tour the 51,250-square-foot facility, the dedicated new home for SUU’s fast-growing music program.
The Eccles Music Center provides state‑of‑the‑art spaces designed for classroom learning, artistic creation and public live performances. A public ribbon‑cutting ceremony is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24.
An official grand-opening concert starts at 8 p.m. the same evening. An encore show will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25. Both concerts are free, but physical tickets are required for entry. Guests may collect tickets at the Southern Utah Museum of Art during its regular Monday‑to‑Saturday opening hours.
Following SUU’s homecoming parade on Saturday, Sept. 26, an open house event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors are free to walk through the building’s different spaces and enjoy a series of short recitals given by SUU music students, faculty and returning alumni.
“Music has always been an important part of the SUU experience, and now we have a home that reflects the talent, creativity, and ambition of our students, faculty, and alumni,” said Dr. Adam Lambert, chair of the SUU Music Department. “We’re excited to welcome our community into this new space and, more importantly, to fill it with music for generations to come.”
SUU’s College of Performing and Visual Arts supports more than 900 majors across 41 programs, and SUU is Utah’s first public university to earn accreditation from four leading national arts‑school associations.
