Southern Utah University’s annual Paint the Town Red event took place during Welcome Week on Friday, Sept. 4 at the Cedar City Main Street Park from 5 to 7 p.m. Students and faculty were able to kick off the first week of school with this fun and social tradition.
Paint the Town Red featured more than 180 student-run vendors, allowing them to advertise their own items such as baked treats, jewelry and handcrafted goods. Students were also able to visit many local food and dessert trucks for snow cones and more.
This tradition was also a chance for students to learn about and join their school’s clubs and organizations. Representatives from SUU’s sports teams and other groups were available to answer questions and help students become a part of the T-Bird culture.
Along with clubs, new students who have not yet declared their major were able to learn about the different departments SUU has to offer.
To end the night, students participated in the annual tradition of adding a red, painted handprint to a large, wood wall. The wall resembles T-Bird culture, and it is a great way to bring students together.
“Our goal is to encourage meaningful interaction between students and campus departments,” said Alexis Garcia, vice president of programming for the Student Involvement and Leadership program. “We are excited to welcome new and returning students to campus while showcasing the many departments, programs and resources SUU has to offer.”
