Salt Lake Temple Visitor’s Center will open in May

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints opened a new Temple Square Visitors’ Center to the media on April 13, 2026, and will open to the public on May 18, 2026.

The visitor center is meant to allow guests to engage, explore and learn more about the LDS church and what they believe, according to the church’s website.

“This morning, I was able to dedicate the (visitors’ center) and consecrate it to the purpose of proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ to all those who come here,” said Dieter F. Uchtdorf, acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. “We invite you to come and see and come and learn what we believe, and that you can help us see how we can better reach out and help our fellow members in the human family — because we are all children of our Heavenly Father — lift up each other.”

The opening of the visitors’ center is the first step in reopening the Salt Lake Temple after years of construction. The Temple Open House will take place from April 2027 to October 2027.

On the lower level of the visitors’ center, there is an “inside a temple” tour, where guests can view replicated temple rooms along with an audio tour.  In the west wing, there is a newly commissioned replica of Bertel Thorvaldsen’s Christus statue, and in the east wing, there is a scale model of the Salt Lake Temple.
