This week, Cedar City will be showcasing reggae punk, opera, jazz and rock ‘n’ roll concerts. Here are some opportunities to see talented local musicians this week.
Tuesday, March 24
The Johnson Arts Center at 59 N. 100 W. will present its weekly SokHop performance. This week’s performers will be Bleacher Babe and The Lip. Community members can gather to hear alternative rock and reggae punk music for $5 starting at 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, March 25
This year’s spring opera, “Hänsel and Gretel,” will be showing at the Heritage Center Theater on March 25-28, at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee on March 28 at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for SUU alumni and $5 for youth and non-SUU students. SUU students, staff and faculty receive free admission with a valid ID. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance here.
Thursday, March 26
The Bop-Cats will perform their weekly live jazz show in the Sharwan Smith Student Center Living Room starting at noon. Catch them between classes or jam out during your lunch break to standard classics and new tunes.

Saturday, March 28
“Alt Won’t Kill You” is a live music and local art vendor experience being put on by the Johnson Arts Center beginning at 6 p.m. Featuring bands like SEIZER, Outlaw and Post Human Democracy, it will be an evening for rock enthusiasts and headbangers. Tickets are $15 or pay what you can at
the door.
and Alex Selden will be performing their music recitals. Larsen will begin his senior piano performance at 5 p.m., followed by Selden’s junior guitar recital starting at 7 p.m. in the Thorley Recital Hall. The performances are open to the public and free to attend.
The Willow Glen Resort at 3308 N. Bulldog Road will host various artists for their weekly open mic night. The Roadhouse Wranglers will kick off the evening with a performance at 7 p.m. Afterwards, anyone is welcome to get up on stage and share their talents.
Sunday, March 29
The Vanguard Ensemble presents Steve Reich’s “Music for 18 Musicians” concert at 7:30 p.m. This hour-long composition is considered one of the most important works of contemporary chamber music. A group of 18 musicians will perform continuously without a conductor, following each other’s cues to bring this extraordinary piece to life. The performance will take place in the Thorley Recital Hall and admission is free.
