Flippin’ Birds to face Washington to end homestand

The Southern Utah University gymnastics team will be recognizing the seniors of the team during the upcoming match Friday, March 6, against the University of Washington.

The meet will start at 6:30 p.m. in the America First Event Center.

Southern Utah
SUU currently holds a record of 6-9 and is ranked No. 28 nationally.

The Flippin’ Birds are coming off a tough loss against Utah State University, one of the team’s closest competitors. Scores from the three previous matches have been within a single point.

The Birds had an off day with stumbles on the beam and the uneven bars leading to a hard loss scoring 195.725–196.875. The team showed true perseverance throughout the match, posting their highest score on the floor with a 49.275.

The Birds now stand with a home record of 3–10 following the win facing UC Davis and the loss against Utah State.

Washington
The Huskies hold a record of 5–7 and are ranked No. 34 nationally.

UW is coming from the Big Four Quad, ending in fourth behind Penn State, Nebraska, and Michigan. Despite this loss, they still posted high scores on the floor and bars exercises.

Senior Lilly Tubbs scored a 9.925 on the bars taking the event title. Kristin Lin, the Huskies all-around gymnast, posted a score of 38.100.

The Thunderbirds last faced the Huskies in March 2024. Washington barely eked out the 197.175-196.525 win as then-freshman Niya Randolph placed second in the all-around.
