Men’s basketball takes on Utah Tech in final homestand

After close games on the road against Tarleton State and Abilene Christian, the Southern Utah University men’s basketball team will return home to take on Utah Tech University. The game will take place on Saturday, Feb. 28, the America First Event Center at 6:30 p.m.

The game will be available to stream on ESPN+.

The T-Birds currently hold an overall record of 9-19 and a 5-10 conference record. That puts them at the bottom of the conference standings.

SUU is in the middle of a losing streak, with their two previous games resulting in losses of four points or less. However, that doesn’t mean that the T-Birds haven’t been playing well. Senior Logan Stephens had a career-high 20 points against Abilene Christian University.

Over the course of that game, however, the T-Birds had 15 turnovers in the second half. The key to success against Utah Tech will be maintaining ball control and keeping the rock out of the Trailblazers’ hands.

The Trailblazers currently hold an overall record of 17-12 with a 10-5 conference standing. They sit in second place in the Western Athletic Conference.

The team’s last win took place on Saturday, Feb. 21, where they beat Tarleton State 80-72. Senior Jusaun Holt and sophomore Chance Trujillo led with 19 points apiece.

This marks the third time the Trailblazers are taking on the Thunderbirds this season, but this is the first of those games taking place in Cedar City. While the previous two have resulted in losses for SUU, home court advantage could prove the deciding factor in the game’s outcome.
