Southern Utah is home to a lively local music scene. Here are some opportunities to get involved in it this week.
Tuesday, Feb. 17
The Johnson Arts Center at 59 N. 100 W. will present its weekly SokHop performance. This week’s performer is Dolan Cain, who will remix classic tunes and hard beats with EDM flair. Community members can gather to dance to a live DJ set for $5 starting at 7:15 p.m.
From 7-9 p.m., Southern Utah University is putting on a Mardi Gras carnival featuring live performances from SUU’s band. The event will take place in the Great Hall in the Hunter Alumni Center. This event is free to attend.
Wednesday, Feb. 18
Andrew Blaney will favor the Thorley Recital Hall with a trombone performance starting at 7:30 p.m. The performance is open to the public and free to attend.
Thursday, Feb. 19
The Bop-Cats will perform their weekly live jazz show in the Student Center Living Room starting at noon. Catch them between classes or jam out during your lunch break to standard classics and new tunes.
At 7:30 p.m., the SUU Choirs will present their Spring concert, “Songs of Hope and Love”. They will be performing at Christ the King Catholic Church at 690 Cove Drive. The performance is open to the public and free to attend.
Friday, Feb. 20
As a part of the 2025-26 Music Masterworks Series, the Symphony Orchestra will perform its “Emerging Artists” concert. Three composers and three artists from SUU will showcase their works at the Heritage Center Theater at 105 N. 100 E., at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for adults are $10, $8 for alumni, $5 for youth and non-SUU students and free for SUU students, faculty and staff.
Blackbird Bar at 90 W. Hoover Ave. will be hosting their “Five Bands One Night” event starting at 6 p.m. Attendees will hear performances from Scotty Austin, former lead vocalist of Saving Abel, and special guests Anything But Human, Power Take Off, Briegade and Jared McCloud. This is a 21+ event and tickets will be sold at the door for $25 on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open at 5 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 21
As a part of SUU’s Jazz Festival, the Jazz Ensemble One Band will perform at the Heritage Center Theater at 7:30 p.m. The concert will showcase outstanding soloists chosen throughout the festival as they perform with SUU’s band and guest percussionist Jed Blodgett. The performance is open to the public and free to attend.
Blackbird Bar presents SEIZER and Post Human Democracy at 8:30 p.m. for a hardcore show. Tickets are $5 at the door. Moshing encouraged.
Maia Patchett and Madelynn Zobel will perform their voice recitals in the Thorley Recital Hall. Patchett will begin her performance at 5 p.m., and Zobel will follow at 7 p.m.
The Willow Glen Resort at 3308 N. Bulldog Road will host various artists for their weekly open mic night. The Roadhouse Wranglers will kick the evening off with a performance at 7 p.m., after which anyone is welcome to get up on stage and share their talents.
