The Southern Utah University gymnastics team hosted No. 23 Brigham Young University on Friday, Feb. 6 at the America First Event Center. Both teams recorded season-high scores, with the Cougars winning 196.975–196.000.
Niya Randolph won the all-around title with an overall score of 39.300.
SUU now sits at a record of 2-6 and continues their streak of only losing by two points or less. BYU holds a 5-3 record and won their second meet in a row.
Vault – 48.775
Southern Utah began on vault, led by Elliot Bringhurst’s 9.700. Mackenzie Kelly followed with a 9.625, and Vinciane Le Pen scored a 9.575. Kayla Pardue posted a season-high 9.925 to win the event, while Randolph added a 9.825. Berlin Hall finished the rotation with a 9.700.
Bars – 49.100
Alex Routsis opened the bars rotation with a score of 9.825. Mia Hampton followed with a 9.800, and Ariel Collum added another 9.800. Maria Ferguson scored a 9.850, while Randolph earned a 9.825. Kendall McGuire closed the rotation with a 9.725.
Beam – 48.975
Hampton opened the beam lineup with a 9.675. Ferguson battled a fall deduction to score a 9.025. Bringhurst followed with a 9.850, and Rylee Miller earned a 9.700. Randolph tied her career high with a 9.875, and Emma Nipper closed the rotation with a career-best 9.875.
Floor – 49.150
Southern Utah closed the meet on the floor exercise. Hall led off with a 9.825, followed by Miller, Sage Paladino and Carilia Martinez, who each scored 9.825. Hampton posted a 9.850, and Randolph closed the night with a 9.775.
What’s next?
Southern Utah will compete in the Utah State Quad on Monday night against Utah State University, Sacramento State University, and the University of Alaska Anchorage. The meet will be at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9. and can be streamed on the Mountain West Network.
