After a three-game homestand, the Southern Utah University women’s basketball team will travel to face Tarleton State University for the second time this season. The game will be held in Stephenville, Texas, on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 1 p.m.
The game will be available to stream live on ESPN+.
Southern Utah
The Thunderbirds currently hold a 15-7 overall record and are 7-3 in conference play. The T-Birds are hoping to extend their winning streak to five games after a three-game slide. With a win, they have the potential to take second place in the Western Athletic Conference, which Abilene Christian University currently holds.
The Thunderbirds have a few bright stars on the team, including junior Brooklyn Fely. She won WAC Newcomer of the Week for her performance against ACU. She put up 26 points and 17 rebounds while shooting 63% from the field. This was her third time winning the award this season.
To go along with Fely, sophomore Sierra Chambers is balling out with 15 points per game. Ava Uhrich has also made her presence felt on the court, averaging 14 points a game and leading the team in double-doubles. The three are a hard force to stop.
When the teams met for the first time this season, Tarleton made easy work of the Thunderbirds and won 81-55. Southern Utah is hoping to flip the script.
Tarleton State
The Texans have a conference record of 5-5 and an overall record of 11-10. They rank one spot below the Thunderbirds, sitting at No. 4 in the WAC.
Tarleton State has been inconsistent this season. They once had a four-game win streak, but have struggled to keep momentum alive since. They are 7-2 when playing at home and have gone 5-5 over their past 10 games.
Gia Adams is the Texans’ leading scorer, averaging 12 points per game. She also leads the team in assists with four per game. The team averages five blocks per game more than its opponents, making them a machine in the paint that SUU will have to contend with.
