The state of Utah is now guaranteed to receive over $195 million in the Federal Fiscal Year 2026. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services appropriated this money under the Rural Health Transformation Program.
This $50 billion national initiative is designed to modernize health care delivery in rural communities across the country. Many people in the state drive over an hour to receive hospital care, and even longer to see specialty providers.
“This is a historic opportunity to make generational investments in the health and wellness of rural Utahns,” Tracy Gruber, executive director of the Utah Department of Health and Human Services, said in a news release. “We look forward to partnering with our state’s rural health systems to expand access to high-quality care, modernize infrastructure, and grow our essential clinical workforce.”
Some areas of Cedar City are considered rural, and some of this money will likely go towards upgrading the local hospitals.
Twenty-five of the 29 counties in the state are classified as rural. This program reflects the state’s initiative to provide high-quality care to rural areas.
