SUU News movie review: audiences are on the edge of their seats all throughout “Mercy”

“Mercy,” starring Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson, was released on Jan. 23, 2026. The Sci-fi/Thriller brought a futuristic, action pact film to the big screen and left its audiences’ on the edge of their seats — though not for the reason one would think.

The film is set in the distant future and follows the adaptation and use of artificial intelligence within law enforcement. The storyline was engaging and unpredictable with its quality writing and acting.

Pratt and Ferguson delivered an excellent performance. Based on Pratt’s past roles, it was unclear whether he would be able to pull off such a serious character.

I thought Pratt was convincing and intriguing in his role. Despite my view, critics saw it differently.

“The biggest mystery involved in “Mercy” is not who killed Mrs. Raven but why a star with Mr. Pratt’s everyman charisma keeps choosing such mediocre projects,” said Kyle Smith.

“Mercy” took no mercy at the box office during its opening weekend, passing multiple new releases including “Avatar: Fire & Ash.” The film made $11.2 million in the first three days. However, critics graded it harshly with negative reviews and only a 20% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

“You can feel this thriller growing more and more stupid by the minute,” said Mike McGranaghan.

I personally found the film entertaining. While it did not blow me away, it was an interesting use of futuristic technology, and the storyline kept me engaged with its fast-paced action and eye-catching scenery.

“Mercy” brought a whole new light to the future of AI, and I believe it is worth the watch despite its ratings.

“Mercy” will be available in theaters or for rent until further notice. Find more reviews and updates here on suunews.net.
