Off the Cuff Comedy celebrated their 22nd birthday on Friday, Jan. 16 during their weekly show. This was the first year ever that the cast was able to perform on the company’s actual birthday.
OTC’s venue was filled for the event, with excess seating overflowing and fans having to stand in the back to watch the show. From college students to families, everyone gathered for a night of local comedy and laughter.
OTC was founded by Wendy and TJ Penrod, who originated as a stand-up act at The Grind Coffeehouse in downtown Cedar City. After multiple location and cast changes, OTC has become a community staple over 20 years later.
“Since 2004, our number one mission has been to deliver high quality live performances that are affordable, interactive and fun,“ says the OTC website. “OTC aims to deliver delightfully surprising content every week.”
OTC holds their weekly shows every Friday night at 8 p.m. As a new addition, they recently implemented The Improv Lab, a monthly experimental show for anyone over the age of 18.
“It is a really great opportunity to come down, have some fun with people and laugh,” said frequent attendee Tate Ralphs.
Besides shows, the OTC cast members host a variety of improv and acting classes for those looking to better their skills, build confidence and meet new people. The classes include Improv 101, Presentation and more.
“What I like is that improv is completely unique to the entertainment world,” said cast member Rev McLean. “You can expect to come to a show and never see the same show twice.”
