Last week, winter was in full swing in Cedar City, Utah, with daily temperatures averaging below freezing and wind speeds reaching up to 30 mph.
Next week’s weather forecast looks like an early spring is beginning in Southern Utah. Sunny conditions will continue on Monday, Jan. 19, through Tuesday, Jan. 20, with temperatures reaching the low to mid 50s.
Wednesday through Sunday will bring partly cloudy conditions with temperatures decreasing to an average of 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
Precipitation is expected to remain low throughout the week, and wind speeds will likely not exceed 10 mph.
Despite the warmer daytime temperatures, the sun will not rise until about 7:40 a.m, meaning that the mornings will be dark and cold. Students are advised to walk and drive with caution as roads, parking lots and sidewalks may be slick.
“It’s harder to control or stop your vehicle on a slick or snow-covered surface,” said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. “On the road, increase your following distance enough so that you’ll have plenty of time to stop for vehicles ahead of you.”
