“Tron: Ares” was released on Oct. 10, 2025, and it is the third film of the “Tron” franchise. These sci-fi/action movies have brought viewers into the world of the classic video game of the same name since the game’s release in 1982.
Overall, “Tron: Ares” was eventful and entertaining throughout, despite only scoring 52% on Rotten Tomatoes. Starring actors Jared Leto and Evan Peters delivered excellent performances as the story’s hero and villain. Although the rest of the acting was mediocre, the film’s eye-catching CGI made up for it.
While I was personally engaged in the movie, fans of the classic video game and original film were disappointed by this sequel, especially considering its overly large budget.
“Who approved a $220 million budget on a movie absolutely no one asked for?” asked audience member Niel S. “What upsets me is how it’s mildly decent, yet utterly pointless.”
People were shocked to see a preview for a “Tron” sequel earlier this year after the 2010 “Tron: Legacy” was a box office flop. Surprisingly, “Tron: Ares” significantly underperformed the prior film, earning only $142 million globally compared to “Legacy’s” $400 million.
However, despite the low turnout, some were still intrigued by the new film and its beloved story.
“I found the storyline interesting, and found myself paying attention for the duration of the film, ” said an anonymous reviewer. “The soundtrack was good, the visuals were stunning and the acting was solid.”
For those looking for a nostalgic, action-pact film, “Tron: Ares” is available for rent or purchase on Fandango as of today, Dec. 2. It will also be released on Disney+ in early 2026.
