With finals week coming up next week, Southern Utah University is offering a variety of activities to support students during this stressful and overwhelming time.
To begin, on Monday, Dec. 1, the Writing Center is hosting a Pizza for Paper event. This is an opportunity for participants to enjoy a free meal while having their essays checked and reviewed by tutors. The event will take place in the Writing Center from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Starting now, every Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the SUU International Office will offer students stress and coping sessions with Charissa Novasel in the Global Landing Room. Participants will be able to use stress toys, eat sour candies and do some coloring to manage stress and emotions.
In the meantime, the Tutoring Center is encouraging everyone to come in for help and try to win prizes, including six free recurring individual sessions, $25 gift cards to the SUU Bookstore, SUU goodies and more. Available until Dec. 10, each session equals 1 automatic entry. One-time visits, recurring appointments, PAL groups and study squads all count towards it.
On Thursday, Dec. 4, students can grab a bite and get into the Christmas spirit with the Sleight the Finals event, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Sharwan Smith Student Center Living Room.
For late risers, the SUU Student Alumni Association is hosting the traditional Holiday Lights and Cocoa event on the same day from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. It will be followed by a screening of the play A Charlie Brown Christmas at 8 p.m. During these events, students will have the opportunity to enjoy snacks and hot chocolate, as well as let their imaginations run wild with arts and crafts activities.
This will also be the case on Friday, Dec. 5, with the Southern Utah Museum of Art Sidekicks activity. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., participants can create mosaics inspired by De Stijl artworks, enjoy snacks and chat with their peers.
