A 47-year-old man fatally crashed on his motorcycle early Saturday morning in Cedar City, Utah. The crash occurred at the intersection of 100 W and Coal Creek Rd.
According to Cedar City Police Sgt. Kirk Lovell, the incident occurred shortly after midnight, when the man was traveling north on 100 W on a Yamaha street bike. The motorcyclist lost control of the bike and landed near the intersection.
Officials said the driver was wearing a helmet, but it came off during the crash. The injuries were consistent with a high-speed crash and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other vehicles are believed to have been involved. Lovell said there were no witnesses, but a passerby discovered the crash shortly after and called for help. Officials said there were no evident signs of life when he was first discovered.
Emergency response came from the Cedar City Police Department, Cedar City Fire Department, and Utah Highway Patrol, who responded to the scene.
The crash remains under investigation as officials work to determine whether speed, impairment or other factors were involved.
