Human remains found in trash bag linked to St. George woman

Human remains found in a trash bag on the side of the road in Brigham City have been identified as Brandy M. Hickey, a St. George resident. The police are now considering the case a homicide.

Hickey, who would have been 42 years old when she was found on April 2, wasn’t initially linked to the case due to the level of decomposition of the body. Investigators initially identified Hickey’s clothes and a heart-shaped tattoo in the remains, but did not link her to the homicide until performing DNA tests.

Hickey lived in St. George and had connections to Salt Lake City, but her family and friends said they hadn’t been in contact with her since 2021. However, a missing persons report was never filed.

Authorities don’t have much information on Hickey’s death or who might’ve caused it. There was also nothing at the scene of the crime that suggested it happened in Brigham City, leaving most details of the case unknown.

The Brigham City Police Department released a statement after ruling Hickey’s case as a homicide.

“We would like to emphasize that every member of our community has value, and it is unacceptable for anyone to be harmed and discarded in such a callous and inhumane manner,” a police officer said. “The Brigham City Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to seeking justice for Brandy and her loved ones.”

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have asked anyone with information or connections to Hickey to call 435-734-6684 or send an email to detectives@bcutah.gov.
