On Oct. 17, Southern Utah University’s Student Programming Board announced the theme of the 2025 Scream to be “The Final Slash.” The party will be on Oct. 25, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Sharwan Smith Student Center.
The Scream is SUU’s annual Halloween event thrown by SPB. It is one of the biggest parties of the year and always has something new for attendees to look forward to.
This year’s party will be a little different from previous ones as it will have a larger focus on the scary elements of Halloween. Set in an abandoned movie theater, The Scream will bring well-known slasher villains to life.
“In previous years, we’ve done a really good job with making it where it’s student-centered and we’ve made it a fun environment, but we wanted to bring back that scary element and give it a reason to have the name ‘Scream,’” said Emily Dean, director of the event. “We’re going to have Michael, Freddy, Chucky — all of those guys — they’re going to be all throughout the event.”
The Scream will have numerous attractions, including escape rooms, a dance and a haunted house in the multipurpose building. Participants will have the chance to win prizes at the “Kill Count Carnival” in the Ballroom and each game will be tied to an iconic villain.
Dean recommended that students come dressed up in costume, as it will enhance the experience of the event.
“Dress up. Have fun.” Dean advised. “All of us people that are working the event are dressing up. We’re having fun with it. You guys should too.”
The only entrance into The Scream will be on the west side of the America First Event Center, across from the soccer fields. Students are expected to bring their mobile student ID in order to receive a wristband that allows them entry. Wristbands are free for students and $15 for non-students with a state ID. Re-entry is not permitted.
Bags, props and weapons are not allowed at the event and all attendees must be 18 and older to enter.
