Soccer gets shutout by Wildcats

Wrapping up their two-game road trip in Texas, the Southern Utah University women’s soccer team faced Abilene Christian University on Sunday, Oct. 5. Abilene Christian dominated, winning 4-0, shutting out Southern Utah. 

With the win, ACU improves to 5-7-1 on the year and 1-2-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. SUU falls to 2-7-2 this season and 1-2 in the WAC. 

First half
Southern Utah attacked early, getting a trio of shots on goal but Lili Ross was able to get in front of them. In the 24th minute, SUU’s Dakota Hansen committed a foul in the box, resulting in a Baylie Simon penalty kick. 

Six minutes later, the Wildcats continued on the attack with Raelin Miller finding the back of the net, assisted by Emma Nylund

Second half
Coming out in the second half, Abilene Christian picked up right where they left off. In the 47th minute, Amelia Leggett scored off the assist of Peyton Hill

One minute later, Shakira Kafero Roberts added to the scoring fest, scoring her second goal of the season, making it a 4-0 game. Southern Utah would make five more shots on goal to finish the game, but couldn’t find the back of the net.

What’s next?
Southern Utah will return home to face California Baptist University on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. This game will be played on the Thunderbird Soccer Field and can be streamed live on ESPN+.
