On Saturday, Oct. 4, Canyon Creek Services held its fifth annual gala at Iron Springs Resort. The theme was “Moonlit Canyon Masquerade: An Evening of Elegance, Mystery, and Impact.”
The fundraising event featured an awards ceremony, fire dancing, country line dancing lessons, a make- your-own trail mix bar, a photobooth and more.
“It was really cool hearing about all the ways that Canyon Creek Services has been able to help survivors and the impact that they’re making on the community,” said attendee Ashley Haderlie. “We’ve also had a really good time learning some country line dances.”

The masquerade’s objective is to help people understand domestic violence and destigmatize it.
“It’s not an issue to need help,” said Lexa Gillette from Ethereal Event Co.
Canyon Creek Services is a comprehensive community-based advocacy organization that addresses domestic violence and sexual assault in Beaver, Iron and Garfield counties.
It provides free, confidential and comprehensive services to survivors and also engages in community education and prevention programming to achieve its vision of “Communities Free of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.”Fundraisers like the masquerade gala help raise funds and increase awareness of its mission.
“When the community shows up and shows out for the community and the resources we have available for domestic violence, it really makes a difference,” said Gillette.
Gillette shared that one of her passions is helping people heal their inner child. She believes that being able to dance, let loose and be carefree is a form of healing.
“I love doing service or anything like that for anybody that I can help, especially women or children. Any way that I can help or bring people together as a community, I’m all over that,” said line dance instructor Shanette Bergener.
