NBC’s Today Show and USA Today both rated Utah as “one of the top eight unique destinations to view fall colors.”
Cedar city, and all of southern Utah, features vibrant colors and crisp weather this time of year. The high-elevation areas cause a quick color change as the seasons shift from the summer to fall.
Cedar Breaks National Monument is only a short distance from Southern Utah University. The route to Cedar Breaks is lined with bright red and yellow trees, making it the perfect place to take a fall drive or have a photoshoot.
The fall beauty can be appreciated without taking the entire long drive up the canyon, though. There are multiple stops along the way with lookoffs, picnic tables and walking trails.
While not as drastic yet, some mid-elevation areas near Cedar City are beginning to see some color change. The Cedar Highlands only have some minor coloring, but the beautiful views and cozy weather make for an enjoyable fall trip.
The lower elevation areas, such as SUU’s campus, have not seen much change as of now, but the weather and color changes can be expected in the weeks to come.
“It’s time to acknowledge the secret: Fall truly is the best time to visit Southern Utah,” said an anonymous KSL reporter. “The summer crowds have thinned, leaving trails and viewpoints quiet.”
SUU students and Cedar City residents can look forward to southern Utah’s renowned fall season. Now is the time to plan trips to the pumpkin patch, go hiking and more.
