T-birds can find a job at the Student Job Expo

On Wednesday, Sept. 3rd, Southern Utah University’s Career and Professional Development Center will hold the Student Job Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Sharwan Smith Student Center Ballroom.

Held once a semester, the expo connects SUU students with employers offering part-time, seasonal and flexible positions. This fall, 22 employers — ranging from local businesses to campus departments — are expected to attend.

“It’s designed to help students earn income while in school, gain real world experience and make professional connections,” said Bobby Hodge, marketing and events coordinator for the Career and Professional Development Center.

To prepare, the center recommends that students review its Career Fair Etiquette webpage, dress professionally, work on a 30-second introduction and check the list of participating employers through Handshake. The online networking platform is accessible through MySUU Portal.

“My favorite part is seeing students walk out of the event excited and confident! Sometimes with an interview lined up or even a job offer,” added Hodge. “ Watching those instant connections happen is always rewarding.”

Each semester, dozens of students secure positions directly from the event, while many more make connections leading to interviews and offers later on.

In addition to hosting career fairs, the Career Center provides services such as resume and cover letter reviews, interview preparation workshops, networking strategies and career assessments.

For more information or tips, visit the Career Center on the second floor of the Sharwan Smith Student and make sure to attend the Student Job Expo.
