Flippin’ Birds finish third in NCAA Regionals

In round two of the National Collegiate Athletics Association gymnastics regionals, the Southern Utah University women’s gymnastics team competed against the University of Minnesota, the University of California, Los Angeles and Boise State University on Thursday, April 3. 

Southern Utah battled, finishing third with a 196.475. UCLA finished first overall with a 197.750, followed by Minnesota with a 197.200. Boise State rounded up in fourth with a score of 195.175.

Bars
SUU started the meet off on bars, landing a strong score of 49.075. Mia Hampton led SUU with a 9.850, finishing tied for ninth. 

Six different gymnasts scored a 9.900, with Minnesota scoring a rotation-high 49.375.

Beam
Moving onto the beam, Niya Randolph and Rylee Miller led the way for the Flippin’ Birds. Both gymnasts recorded a 9.875, helping SUU notch a 49.100. 

UCLA’s Jordan Chiles dazzled with a 9.950, leading the Bruins to a 49.500 team score. 

Floor
SUU notched their best rotation of the meet on the floor. Ellie Cacciola finished fifth overall with a 9.900, while SUU scored a 49.200 as a team.

The Bruins dominated the floor, scoring another 49.500. All top three scores on the rotation belonged to UCLA.

Vault
Finishing up the meet on vault, Southern Utah put out another strong performance. Hampton and Randolph finished tied for third with a 9.875 each.

UCLA dominated the vault, scoring a 49.450, led by Chiles. The former Olympic gold medalist scored a 9.950. 

Chiles finished first in the all-around with a 39.600. Randolph finished fourth with a 39.400. 

With the third-place finish, Southern Utah’s 2025 season officially ends.
