On Wednesday, March 26, Thunderbirds were able to take part in Lunch on Main to celebrate Southern Utah University’s 128th birthday. On top of the snacks students could enjoy around campus, this Founder’s Week tradition also offered a place to learn more about SUU’s history, as well as celebrate with fellow classmates.
Free food, drinks and goodies were handed out at the Rotunda, Old Main, the Library, Old Sorrel, the Centurium, the ELC Patio and the Southern Utah Museum of Art. Students were given a tracker where they could receive stamps at each location they visited and turn it in for the chance to win various prizes.
Members of the Student Alumni Association participated by handing out food, fliers, stickers and taking pictures while connecting with students.

“The interaction with students is amazing. The energy is exciting, and everyone is in a great mood. It’s really fun to share in the excitement of everything,” said Lori Allen, a member of the Student Alumni Association.
Southern Utah has 50 traditions that students can participate in during their time at SUU, and many are school-sponsored and available on campus. Many of these traditions, like Lunch on Main, are highlighted during Founder’s Week. Tradition keeping gives T-Birds a chance to have new and exciting experiences on campus and around Cedar City.
Bailey Arnold, a student who participated in Lunch on Main, said, “I’ve never seen so many people on campus before; it really brings everyone together.”
Founder’s Week also serves as a great way to learn more about the history of Southern Utah University and pay homage to the founders who made it possible for the university to be what it is today.
Although the semester is nearing an end, there are still a number of traditions students can participate in.
The SUU Traditions website has a full list of traditions and event dates so students never have to miss a Tradition Keeper event.
