Trying to bounce back after a disappointing loss at home, the Southern Utah University women’s basketball team will travel to face Seattle University for the season finale on Thursday, Mar. 6, at 7 p.m.

“For us, we have to stay hungry, motivated, and use our next game as momentum to still get better for the tournament,” said Head Coach Tracy Mason.
Southern Utah
After starting the season slow, Southern Utah has started to find their rhythm over the last 10 games. The T-Birds were 5-5 in the previous 10 games and 4-1 in their last five. SUU is 8-20 on the season and 6-9 in the Western Athletic Conference.
It was a tightly contested game the last time these two teams faced off against each other. Southern Utah got the best of Seattle U 61-57 back on Jan. 18. Forward Ava Uhrich led the T-Birds in the game with 15 points on 7/17 shooting from the field.
Graduate student Daylani Ballena has been playing some of her best basketball in her last few games. Ballena was averaging 15.2 points a game in her previous five games.
Freshman guard Sierra Chambers is coming off her best game of the season. Chambers scored a career-high 16 points on 5/6 shooting from three against Utah Tech University on Feb. 27.
Seattle U
It has been a season to forget for Skyler Young and the Redhawks. Seattle U is 3-24 on the season and 0-14 in WAC play. The Redhawks’ last win came on Dec. 29 against California State University, Bakersfield.
Defensively, Seattle U has struggled to contain their opponents. The Redhawks rank No. 339 in the nation in scoring defense, allowing opponents to score 74.6 points per game. Seattle U is also allowing teams to shoot 45.3% from the field.
Despite the team struggles, freshman guard Candy Edokpaigbe has been a bright spot for Seattle U. Edokpaigbe is averaging 16 points a game over her last five games. The Naples, Italy guard also leads the team with 13 blocks.
Southern Utah is 3-1 all-time against Seattle U.
