Three players from men’s basketball team arrested

Three Southern Utah University men’s basketball players were arrested for stealing two university refrigerators on Nov. 11.

Hercy Miller, Brock Felder, and Peter Dadson were arrested on suspicion of third-degree felony theft, since each refrigerator is worth $1,500, the stolen property totaled $3,000.

The SUU Athletic Department and Southern Utah University have not made a comment and no disciplinary action has been announced for any player.

All three players are still active and competing for the men’s basketball team. The Thunderbirds are off to one of their best starts in program history, standing 8-2 overall.

Police received video footage of the athletes stealing the fridges and loading them into a truck. The officers then visited an apartment shared by two of the men. SUU police said they could see the fridge through the window.

When confronted, Miller said they thought the refrigerators were going to be thrown away and it was OK to take them.

Miller then led the officers to the other refrigerator. When police talked to Dadson, he said he had seen them outside the loading dock near the SUU Bookstore for almost a month and assumed they were being thrown away.

Dadson said he didn’t talk to anyone about the fridges before taking them.

Out of the three players arrested, Felder is the only one to start, while Miller leads all players off the bench with 16.1 minutes played per game. Dadson has only appeared in one game scoring two points.
