Friendsgiving with SOS: a moment to connect and have fun

To celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, Southern Utah University’s Student Outreach and Support Office invites students to share a moment of festivity at its Friendsgiving banquet this Friday, Nov. 22 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Held in the Sharwan Smith Student Center rooms 101 and /102, the banquet will feature a traditional Thanksgiving feast, including mashed potatoes, gravy, macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole and assorted pies. SOS’s goal with this event is was to  nurture a sense of community and offer comfort to students who may be unable to travel home for the holiday.

“We really wanted to try to connect with students who maybe are feeling anxious about going home or who are international and don’t have a chance to go home,” said Janae Hawk, SOS Office Non-Clinical Case Manager. “So we just wanted to build a space for people to come make friends, eat good food and build some connections.”

To create a friendly atmosphere, a variety of board games will be available. The SOS Office aims to provide students with an opportunity to de-stress at this time of year when holidays expenses, family reunions and other seasonal stressors are coming up.

“I am excited to help students to find connections with other students and be able to build more communities here at SUU,” added Hawk.

Hawk encourages all students to attend and looks forward to welcoming everyone with open arms.
