SUMA Sidekicks offers a free program for students

The Southern Utah Museum of Art is a free museum across the street from Southern Utah University. SUMA runs a program called SUMA Sidekicks, a free membership program for students of SUU and Southwest Tech to join and enjoy prizes, exclusive events and a 20% discount toward the SUMA Shop.

“The SUMA Sidekicks program launched in the fall of 2019, and we introduce a new theme at the beginning of each fall semester,” said the coordinator of public engagement Kelsi Leavitt.

The Sidekicks program is taking on a theme called “Peace, Love & SUMA.” This theme holds significance to Cedar City.

“Jim Jones, a native of Cedar City and accomplished artist, donated his collection of original rock concert posters obtained from concerts held at The Fillmore West in San Francisco and we have these pieces in our permanent collection at the museum,” said Leavitt. “Members of Sidekicks get the opportunity to view these posters up close and personal.”

“One of the coolest things I’ve noticed about SUMA Sidekicks, especially our events, is that people often come alone. I see so many students coming alone and leaving with a new friend they made,” said learning and engagement assistant Mayzie Smith.

This program is free for students and is always accepting new members. To join SUMA Sidekicks just stop by the museum any day Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or visit their website for more information.
