Democrat Brian King believes he can win governor race in red state of Utah

Voting has begun, and the Democratic opponent believes he has a winning chance, despite the consistent Republican winners Utah has had for many years.

Brian King is running as the Democratic candidate for Utah governor against incumbent Republican Spencer Cox. Utah has been a consistent red state in the past; however, King shows confidence that he can win on Nov. 5.

“People say, ‘You can’t win this election,'” King told supporters. “Yes, we can. I’ve always thought we could, and these events in the last few weeks have made it abundantly clear to me: We can win this election. And we will.”

There hasn’t been a Democratic governor for the state of Utah since Gov. Scott Matheson was re-elected in 1980.

King disapproves of Cox’s recent support and endorsement of Trump for the upcoming presidential election. He said it was “so disappointing” to see Cox make this shift.

King and write-in Republican candidate Phil Lyman, recently posted a video on YouTube mocking Cox’s ‘Disagree Better’ campaign, showing that Republicans and Democrats don’t agree on many issues.

The video shows a list of disagreements between the parties which are public lands, education curriculum, reproductive rights, election processes and the role of government. It also shows both candidates agree “that Spencer Cox should not be our next governor.”

“I certainly think this ad is going to impact the campaign,” says King. “Because it’s going to raise the visibility of the campaign.”

Cedar City residents can go to the Heritage Center to cast their vote for governor on Nov 5.
