Southern Utah University Outdoors is clearing their inventory and inviting the community to do the same. On Friday, October 18, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., SUU Outdoors is hosting their 20th annual Community Gear Swap located at 356 S. Main St.
This event is open and free to all community members. Anyone interested can grab one of the provided foldable tables to set up what gear they will sell or trade with SUU Outdoors or other attendees. If not selling gear, all are invited to stop by and browse, barter and score gear for a new adventure.
“We are having three local nonprofits joining us at this event: Get Outside, Iron Trailcraft and Cedar City Bike Works,” said Derek Bryan, director of SUU Outdoors. “We will be doing a raffle for a great prize package sponsored by SUU Outdoors and other local companies including Outdoor Vitals, Family Bicycle Outfitters, Cedar Sports, Tucker High Adventure and The Pizza Cart. Proceeds from that raffle will go to each of the three nonprofits.”
Along with the raffle, SUU Outdoors is ramping up this event with music from Thunder 91, free nachos, hot cocoa, popcorn and cotton candy while supplies last.
SUU Outdoors Coordinator Nicole Gramstad is excited to bring Cedar City’s outdoor community with students, staff and SUU Outdoors in their new location.
“This event will bring so many people together who all share similar interests and hobbies,” said Gramstad. It’ll allow for new connections and networking.”
This event has always been held at its old campus location, but with a more central location at 356 S. Main St., SUU Outdoors hopes to integrate students with the local community.
SUU director Bryan recommends that participants to have a Venmo account or bring cash, as these will be the easiest ways to pay for the items being purchased.
This event could create new opportunities, relationships and hobbies, so stop by and meet your next skiing buddy! For more information about the Gear Swap, stop by the SUU Outdoors Basecamp in the Student Center or check out their Instagram account @suuoutdoorus.
