SUU alumna pursues military chaplaincy at Yale Divinity School

Julia Gilmore, an SUU alumna has started her studies at Yale Divinity School. Originally from Highland, Utah, Gilmore is pursuing a Master of Divinity with a focus on religion, theology and ministry to become a military chaplain.

While attending Lone Peak High School, Gilmore earned her associate’s degree through UVU’s Live Interactive program and later majored in anthropology at SUU. Gilmore graduated from SUU in Apr. 2024.

“Her curiosity and bright intellect were matched only by her ability to make connections that extended beyond the content being taught,” said Crystal Koenig, assistant anthropology professor. “Her humility and dedication have always stood out. We are confident that she will continue to excel and make a significant impact in her field.”

Upon entering Yale Divinity School, Gilmore intends to provide spiritual support through both ministry and theological practices. She is grateful for the foundational experiences and mentorship she received at SUU and plans on forever being a proud T-Bird.

“The support and inspiration I received from my professors and peers at SUU have been instrumental in my journey,” said Gilmore. “As I move forward in my studies, I carry with me the strong sense of community and the T-Bird spirit continues to be an important part of my identity.”

With more than 150 undergraduate, 32 graduate, certificate programs and a professional doctorate degree, Southern Utah University plans on providing personalized education to every student. Additional SUU alumni stories can be found online.
